מיליטריזם

המחקר עוסק בסדרת ציורי שמן על בד, "יפי נשק", של האומנית זהר טל ענבר (נ' 1964). הסדרה מתארת דמויות של גברים צעירים, חיילים, וכוללת גם ציור אחד של אם ותינוק. הסדרה צוירה לאחר שחרורו מהצבא של בן האומנית, אשר אובחן כסובל מפוסט־טראומה (PTSD) על רקע שירותו הצבאי. המתודולוגיה משלבת ניתוח חזותי של הציורים עם ראיונות עומק עם האומנית. הממצאים חשפו כי סדרת הציורים משקפת הֲזרה כפולה: תמטית וסגנונית. מבחינה תמטית השתמשה האומנית באינטר־טקסטואליות מכוונת כדי לתאר את דמויות החיילים כגיבורים מן המיתולוגיות היוונית והרומית ומן הנצרות. אימוץ הסיפורים הרחוקים תרבותית שימש לה אמצעי לניסוח רעיונות הקשורים בחייל הישראלי בכלל, ובזה הפגוע נפשית בפרט. מבחינה סגנונית נטעה האומנית ציור פיגורטיבי קלאסי, שנוצר מתוך התבוננות במודלים בתוך מרחב ציורי בלתי־מוגדר, שכתמי צבע מופשטים ממלאים אותו. כאם לחיילים בישראל מבטאת האומנית בסדרה עמדה ביקורתית: היא חושפת את פגיעותו של החייל, ותוך כדי כך מרמזת על התופעה של פוסט־טראומה על רקע צבאי, שמקומה בשיח הישראלי הוא של "אובדן לא מוקר".

Fragile Masculinity: A Soldier’s Image Portrayed by his Mother’s Brush \ Shahar Marnin-Distelfeld 

For this study, Of  Beautiful Arms, a series of oil paintings by Zohar Tal Inbar (b. 1964) was examined. All but one of the works portray figures of young soldiers; a lone canvas depicts a mother holding an infant. The series was created after the artist’s son was diagnosed with PTSD following his discharge from military service. Research methodology combined both a visual analysis of the paintings and in-depth interviews with the artist. The study found that the series reflects both thematic and stylistic estrangement. Thematically, the artist employed intertextuality to depict the soldiers as heroes from Christianity and from Greek and Roman mythologies.  By adopting these culturally remote experiences, the artist was able to formulate ideas related to Israeli soldiers, specifically to those affected psychologically. Stylistically, she embraces classical figurative painting through model observation, locating her figures in a non-defined space filled with abstract colored stains. In executing this series, the artist, as a mother of soldiers, has taken a critical stand, exposing the fragility of soldiers, and bringing to light PTSD, regarded as “disenfranchised grief” in Israeli society.
